The construction was being carried out for 1.5 years as part of the modernization program of the plant. The substation will supply electricity to the technological facilities of the plant in view of the increased production capacities, as well as to the facilities of the KPAAU under construction.
PS-220 kV provides 1st category of power supply, which ensures the increased reliability in the uninterrupted supply of electricity and, as a result, the stability of the equipment leads to a reduction in material damage from unscheduled downtime.
The power consumption of the equipment that can be connected to the new substation is 50 MW. This is comparable to the electricity consumption of 4 urban-type settlements, such as Ilsky. Previously, the facilities of the plant received electricity from electric power substation PS-35 kV with capacity of 8 MW.
Apart from the high performance, PS-220 kV is undoubtedly an electric power substation of new generation. During its construction, advanced domestic developments were used, including gas-insulated and vacuum circuit breakers. The software prompt blocking prevents human errors, while the electric power metering system allows monitoring and planning energy-efficient modes of operation of technological and offsite facilities.
Switching devices of the primary circuit can be controlled remotely due to the automated workplace (software and hardware complex). The operation of the substation is ensured by 20 employees: from engineering personnel for maintenance of the main equipment to electricians on duty.
